Is your skin dry, dehydrated or both?
Do you know how to differentiate between dry and dehydrated skin?
I couldn't until very recently and knew that I needed to brush up on my knowledge if I was to advise others on the subject. So here goes ...
The actual difference between the two is that dry skin is a skin TYPE and dehydrated skin is a skin CONDITION which is temporary and can be altered.
I always thought that my skin was dry but on a recent health kick I started to drink more water, usually 3 litres now per day. Within a few day I noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. My skin became more supply, bouncy and even. The flakes of dry skin stayed away after I exfoliated and became lovely and soft. Even more noticeable was the redness disappeared it felt less tight and started to glow. I was so surprised at how drastic the difference was in a short amount of time with a simple thing like drinking more water.
Dry skin
Dry skin is a skin type that many people have. It may present itself as:
- Flaky
- Tight
- Occasionally sore
- Appearing dull.
- May be sensitive or react to many products
- Will NOT absorb creams easily
- Blackheads can still appear contrary to belief.
Good skincare and exfoliation can help with lots of spritzing which I will discuss further into the blog.
Dehydrated skin
Dehydrated skin is a temporary condition that can quite easily be addressed. It presents itself as:
- Dull
- Absorbs moisturisers VERY quickly
- Appears dry
It can be caused by:
- Extreme weather conditions eg too much sun, too cold, windy
- Air conditioning
- Central heating
- Poor diet
- Alcohol
- Lack of water intake
- Stress
- Poor skincare
- Smoking
How many of these would apply to you? Many of us can relate to the central heating issue and that is why dehydrated skin can be predominant in the winter.
What is the solution?
It is quite straight forward really eat well, sleep well, drink well and have a good skincare routine!
I can help you with the skincare routine best suitable for you if you would like to get in touch. The main product that I will promote, with both dry skin and dehydrated skin is a facial spritz. Spritz Spritz and more spritz until your skin shows signs of improvement at least. Carry one around with you everywhere you go. When you go to the bathroom.... SPRITZ! I have a fantastic new facial mist that has recently launch with The Body Shop at Home and that is our Drops of Youth Bouncy Jelly Mist. It is AMAZING. Not only does it give a huge boost of hydration but it protects your skin from the blue light radiation given off from devices such as computers, phones and tablets etc. Blue light can cause our skin to age quicker and it does that ok on its own without the additional help 😂
If you would like some products recommended or some general advice then please get in touch I would love to help you on your skincare journey.
